What is The Dog Wood?
The Dog Wood is a private, secure dog walking woodland in Bosham, West Sussex. Unlike your usual enclosed grassy field, our woodland offers trees, natural surroundings and plenty of interesting smells for your dog to explore!
Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk, somewhere to practise training or a safe space for your dog to enjoy some off-lead freedom, the whole woodland is yours during your booking.
Will we have the woodland to ourselves?
Absolutely! Every booking is completely private, so you won't be sharing the woodland with other customers or their dogs. We also leave a 10-minute gap between bookings to help avoid any unexpected encounters.
How long is each booking?
Each booking is a one-hour slot, giving you 50 minutes of exclusive woodland time, followed by a 10-minute changeover period. Please make sure you leave promptly at the end of your 50 minutes so the next visitors can enjoy their session too.
How many dogs can I bring?
You can bring up to three dogs per booking.
This limit is part of our planning requirements, so please don't bring additional dogs without prior written permission.
Is The Dog Wood suitable for reactive or nervous dogs?
Yes! In fact, they're one of the reasons we created The Dog Wood.
Our private booking system means your dog can enjoy the woodland without having to share the space with unfamiliar dogs or people. We also have a 10-minute gap between bookings to help everyone arrive and leave comfortably.
Is the woodland securely fenced?
Yes! The Dog Wood is enclosed with boundary fencing approximately six feet high, although heights may vary slightly in places.
We regularly inspect our fencing, but as with any outdoor space, we ask that you check the area is suitable for your own dog before letting them off lead, particularly if they're a talented jumper, climber or digger!
Can I bring my XL Bully or another exempted dog?
Absolutely! We welcome XL Bullies and other legally exempted dogs to The Dog Wood, provided all relevant legal requirements are met.
If your dog requires a Certificate of Exemption, please email a copy to hello@thedogwood.co.uk before your visit, along with your booking reference.
Dogs must remain on a lead and muzzled where legally required when entering and leaving. Once safely inside the fully enclosed woodland with the gate securely closed, leads and muzzles may be removed where legally permitted and where all relevant safety and handling requirements are met.
Please ensure your dog meets all applicable exemption conditions and our booking requirements before visiting.
Can I use the woodland for dog training?
Of course! The Dog Wood is a lovely space to work on recall, confidence building, obedience or simply spending some quality one-on-one time with your dog.
Can I bring friends or family?
Yes! You're welcome to bring friends and family along to enjoy your booking.
Please remember that the person making the booking is responsible for everyone in their group, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Where can I park?
We have a designated parking area inside the entrance gate, with space for up to two vehicles per booking.
Please park on the hardstanding and avoid driving or parking on the grass.
How do I book?
All bookings are made online through our website and must be paid for in advance.
Simply choose an available time slot, complete your booking and you're ready to go!
What if I need to cancel or change my booking?
No problem! Plans change.
You can cancel or reschedule your booking through your online account up to 24 hours before your session.
Unfortunately, bookings cancelled within 24 hours are normally non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled.
Can we visit in all weathers?
Generally, yes! A little mud and rain are all part of the woodland fun.
However, we may need to close during particularly bad weather or if conditions become unsafe. If we cancel your booking, we'll offer an alternative booking, account credit or a refund where applicable.
Are there any toilets or lighting?
There are no toilet facilities or artificial lighting at The Dog Wood, so please plan ahead before your visit.
Our opening hours change throughout the year to make the most of the daylight..
